The Ballymena Bears, founded in 2012 are a tag rugby team for people with a learning disability.
The Bears take part in matches against up to eight other clubs across the province and have been going on tour for the last three years. This year they will travel to Greystones for their annual trip away allowing for team bonding and matches against clubs from as far away as Shropshire and Edinburgh not to mention lots and lots of fun.
Tag rugby is non-contact and is played outdoors on a cut down sized rugby pitch. The teams are split by age, with an over 15s (Big Bears) and a Bear Cubs team each playing and training together. Training includes new skills, team challenges and games of tag rugby.
The Ballymena Bears will resume again on Sunday 25th February 2018 at Eaton Park. They meet bi-weekly between 10am and 11am and welcome new players with learning disability of ages 7 and over (no upper limit).
New helpers would also be most welcome, no previous rugby experience is required. Why not go along and give it a try!
