Dow Chemical has taken to the streets of Belfast for the second year to raise £956 for Disability Sport NI and promote enhanced health and wellbeing within their team. As a team they walked the equivalent of Belfast to Rio last year and this year they set their sights on Mount Everest.
The step challenge was first introduced in 2016 to encourage the Belfast Dow team to be more active and they soon caught the walking bug, repeating the challenge again this year. One person even walked a staggering 113,687 steps in one week and over the nine weeks the team collectively reached 10 million steps.
Kevin O’Neill from Disability Sport NI comments, ‘It is great to see Dow Chemical’s thinking creatively to encourage their employees to support a local charity whilst embracing a more active and healthy lifestyle. We are delighted with the funds raised and commend all of the Dow Chemical’s staff on this fantastic effort.”
Philippe Joffroy, Associate Director with Dow noted “An important element of Dow’s Sustainability goals is to engage employees to positively impact and contribute to the communities we live in. Our Belfast team run a number of initiatives throughout the year to help various local charities. When we learned about the work that Disability Sport NI carries out to help improve the health and wellbeing of people with disabilities we realised this challenge was our opportunity to support them and I am delighted that we’ve been able to do this again for the second successive year.”
