Case Studies

Our hope is that participating in sport or physical recreation at any level will have a positive impact on the lives of all those we work with. We are honoured to come into contact with many amazing individuals, groups and organisations through our work. Here are some of their stories.

Eilish Byrne from Armagh started riding at the age of twelve and rode borrowed horses until she got her first horse of her own in her thirties. She started show jumping with her local riding club and then joined Para Equestrian Ireland and got hooked on Dressage.

Eilish who is originally from Dundalk was born with Spina Bifida and she wears a caliper on her right leg. Eilish loves all things 'horsey' and her passion is Dressage. She is a registered coach with Horse Sport Ireland and has recently been appointed as a coach for the development squad of Para Equestrian Ireland.

Eilish's horse is called Youri and together they made it to the Beijing Parlympics in 2008 and the London Paralympics in 2012 at which they won team Bronze, an achievement she is very proud of. Eilish is keen that anyone with a disability gives sport a go.

Sport is a great wat of keeping fit and meeting new people. It is a way to set goals for yourself and achieve them when you put your mind to it despite being disabled. Eilish Byrne.
